Not your Mom's white guy singer/songwriter, Spencer Joyce defies the "singer/songwriter" stereotype with a sound composed of Ed Sheeran acoustic pop with Mumford & Sons folk, Sublime punk reggae, John Mayer blues, and the jam band sensibility of Dave Matthews Band.

Born September 11th, 1992 in Greensboro, North Carolina, Spencer took a keen interest in music from an early age, inspiring the "no singing in class" rule in elementary and middle school. Music became an escape for the young Spencer as a way to express himself and get through tough times at school and at home. After moving to Loudoun County, Virginia at the age of 15, Spencer picked up the guitar and began giving himself private lessons while also gaining the confidence to join Stone Bridge High School's Men's Choir, Chamber Choir, and Theater program. There he honed his craft and was able to successfully audition for, and perform in, Loudoun County VA's All-County and All-District Chorus, and performances of Sondheim's Merrily We Roll Along and Schwartz's Godspell.

Despite not having the funds to go to college and having to take odd jobs to make ends meet, Spencer marched on, and spent most of his free time practicing, making videos, performing at open-mic nights across the DMV and busking on the streets of Alexandria, VA and Annapolis, MD. This work ethic, along with his voice and songwriting skills, caught the attention of Daniel Hill, President, and CEO of Alchemical Records. Hill signed Spencer to Alchemical in September 2013, and Spencer released his debut single, Elephant In A Jar, in February 2015. In the span of 2.5 years under Alchemical, Spencer played many bars and clubs all across DC, Baltimore, Richmond and Northern Virginia including Jammin Java in Vienna, VA, Capital City Showcase in DC, The Camel in Richmond, and The Sidebar in Baltimore. Elephant In A Jar received airplay on stations such as WDCE 90.1 FM Richmond, VA. Ocean 98 Ocean City, MD, and 88.7 WXJM Harrisonburg, VA.

After a breif stint in the band Fight Past The Urge in 2016, 2017 saw Spencer's local career take off, releasing his debut EP, Bad Poker Face, in July and reinventing himself as a one-man-band, incorporating a live-looping station into his live act in order to create rhythm, bass, and percussion tracks right before the audience's eyes as well as incorporate electric guitar, keyboard, and harmonica parts live as well. The quality songwriting and superb production of Bad Poker Face and the live act described as "one part motivational speech, one part love-in, and one part dance party" got Spencer booked to play festivals such as The Nextival in Annapolis and Artscape in Baltimore, big showcases such as Monthly Mayhem at Angels Rock Bar in Baltimore and an opening spot for Higher Education at Rams Head Live in Baltimore, and 4 hour sets at places like Union Jack's in Annapolis and The Irish Whisper in National Harbor. Tracks from the Bad Poker Face EP also found their way into licensing deals for tv, film and retail stores handled by Mood Media, MediaNet, K-Digital Asia, and the Independent Filmmaker Project.

2018 saw Spencer play all across the mid-Atlantic, including his debut at Frozen Harbor Music Festival, the Maryland Chicken Wing Festival, Jimmy's Famous Seafood, the Preakness Balloon Festival, an opening slot for The Unlikely Candidates and Brick & Mortar at Metro Gallery, the Annapolis First Sunday Arts Festival, The Nextival, and The Prince George's County Fair. Spencer also made his Nashville debut in mid-August playing 4 different songwriter nights and finishing off the week with a performance right outside Bridgestone Arena.

2019 will see Spencer release a new LP, Songs About Nothing, and begin peforming with his new backing band, Spencer Joyce's Open Bar Band.
